Student Loan Repayment
For many students in the health professions there are few alternatives to student debt in order to complete their training. Fortunately, Shasta Community Health Center (SCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Dedicated to serving underserved and marginalized patients, SCHC is Federal and State eligible and a very competitive loan repayment site. Below are some links to some of those loan repayment options. We also have staff to provide guidance and assistance as you plan your financial strategy. Moreover, as an added benefit, those who become regularly employed with us after training are given a generous monthly loan repayment stipend while your federal/state applications are in process. Check these links and let us know how we can help you.
SHARP Program
The Scribe Healthcare Advanced Recruitment Pathway (SHARP) Program aims to facilitate and empower SCHC scribes pursuing medical/PA/NP education by providing scribing opportunities, shadowing experiences, mentoring, lecture attendance, and the chance to present a quality improvement project. Our program aims to foster, inspire, and assist local individuals committed to returning as healthcare providers in rural Northern California.
Teaching & Training Affiliations
SCHC is very proud to be associated with many of the region’s and state’s finest teaching and training institutions and organizations. SCHC’s values includes a strong emphasis on education as a way of both helping with recruitment and retention, providing additional access to care, and keeping the quality of care of our organization at a very high level.
About Redding
Redding is located in beautiful Northern California at the top of the Sacramento River Valley and was recently listed as one of the best places to live in the US in 2024. Surrounded on three sides by designated wilderness areas, Redding is an attraction for those looking for an uncrowded experience, hiking, skiing, water sports, or just "less traffic." Redding has a population of 90,000 with numerous surrounding smaller communities. Redding is the major medical referral center between Sacramento and Oregon.
Located conveniently on I-5, events in Sacramento and San Francisco can be reached within 2-3 hours' drive. The beautiful Northern California coast is 150 miles to the west, with state parks and redwood forests close by. Living costs are typically much less in the Redding area, compared to larger metro areas of California.
Residents of the greater Redding area have found it the ideal blend of infrastructure and services - and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. Family centered events, schools, sports, and culture are relatively easy and inexpensive to access. Many residents choose to stay and practice here; Redding is indebted to the Family Practice programs that continue to attract and supply the bulk of primary care physicians in the area.
Two major hospitals serve the community – Shasta Regional Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center/Redding. A combined 400 bed availability provides exceptional medical and surgical services with a broad range of primary and specialty care. We are especially fortunate to have a talented and dedicated medical community that provides outstanding care to our patients.
